A fume hood is controlled for various reasons. The first concern should be safety of the operator, and the second should be energy savings. The industry has gone through several phases of controlling fume hoods over the years and still, there are different preferences as to how a hood should be controlled. Blade Valve
ELECTRONIC AIRFLOW CONTROL VALVE

 

The Tek-Air BVT2000 Series Airflow Control Valve uses the tried and true blade damper concept, and incorporates the dependable Vor-Tek Airflow sensor as an integral part of this assembly. The valve's postion is commanded by a separate controller's signal to the Belimo actuator.This Blade Valve assembly can be ordered in Fail Safe (FSC or FSO), or Fail in Last Place (FLP), and used with any controller that has 2-10 Vdc Analog inputs and outputs.

BAPI-STAT
Combination Temp / humidity Wall sensor

 

The Bapi-Stat 3 features a large display and membrane pushbuttons for wipedown cleaning. It is available as a temperature sensor alone or as a combination temp/humidity sensor. Depending on the options selected, the BAPI-Stat 3 can display room temperature, temperature setpoint, room humidity, humidity setpoint and override status.

APEX Premier
high performance fume hood monitor

 

The Apex Premier™ utilizes state-of-the-art technology to provide the highest level of performance achievable in a fume hood monitor.  The heart of the Apex Premier is the smart sensor module which is responsible for accurate, repeatable and instantaneous measurement of fume hood face velocity.  Face velocity measurement is made by an ultra-sensitive micro-bridge mass airflow sensor with a response time of less than 3 milliseconds.  The analog signal provided by the micro-bridge is digitized by a high-resolution A/D converter, then further enhanced and factory calibrated over the operating velocity range by an automated test an calibration system.

FVC-2100/2200
velocity sensing fume hood Control system

 

For basic constant velocity fume hood control using face velocity measurement, Tek-Air recommends model FVC-2100 or FVC-2200.  The two systems utilize identical components with the exception of duct exhaust volume sensing equipment added to the FVC-2000 to provide flow limit control.  Tek-Air's VorTek airflow traverse probes provide volumetric measurement in that application.

Both systems provide face velocity control using the "sidewall sensing" method.  The basic system consists of a controller, sensor probes, display unit, I/P converter, and exhaust air control valve.  The controller is typically wall-mounted above the fume hood.  The thermal face velocity sensor in the controller connects via PVC tubing to the hood probe mounted on the inner sidewall of the fume hood and the reference probe mounted outside the fume hood interior.

The FVC2100 and FVC2200 also works well with the AV3000 and BVP4000 Control valves when the I/P output is wired to the fast acting electric actuator.

FVC-2600
Sash Sensing Fume Hood COntrol System

 

For basic constant velocity fume hood control using sash position sensing, Tek-Air recommends model FVC-2600.  This system utilizes sash position to reset the volume setpoint in the duct exhaust volume sensing equipment.  Tek-Air's VorTek airflow traverse probes provide volumetric measurement in that application.

The result of the exhaust volume changing based on sash position, allows the controller to maintain a constant face veloicty at the opening of the sash.  The basic system consists of a controller, sash sensor(s), display unit, i/p transducer, and an exhaust air control valve with integral flow measurement sensors.  The controller is typically wall-mounted above the fume hood.

The FVC2600 also works well with the AV3000 and BVP4000 Control valves when the I/P output is wired to the fast acting electric actuator.

IAQ2000
IAQ Outdoor Air Measurement system

 

The IAQ Outdoor Air Measurement system is designed for accurate measurement in outdoor air inlet situations where low velocity, dirt, moisture and turbulence affect other products in quantifying the volume of fresh air to the building. PVt-2000
airflow control valve

 

The PVT-2000 is a precision airflow control valve consisting of a Vortek VT-2000 airflow measuring device mounted in the inlet of a PRD airflow control valve.  A factory-installed current-to-pressure (I/P at 4-20 ma) or voltage-to-pressure (E/P at 2-10 vdc) transducer takes an electronic control signal from any airflow controller to modulate the PRD. The Vortek transmitter provides a
4-20 ma, 1-5 vdc or 2-10 vdc output to the airflow controller.  The use of these industry standard signals allow use with most airflow and temperature controllers presently on the market. A 24 vac or dc power source is required for the Vortek transmitter. Both the I/P and E/P are loop-powered, two-wire connection. Both the I/P and E/P require 20 psi clean, dry instrument air supply to operate.

Iso-tek spm-2000

 

The Iso-Tek space pressurization monitoring system is designed for use in a wide variety of applications that necessitate the monitoring of airflow from one room to another.  The monitor system can be configured by the user for bi-directional measurement of either air velocity in feet per minute (fpm), or air pressure in inches of water column ("wc").

TFP-5000
Differential pressure airflow probes

 

The TFP-5000 Airflow Measurement Probes have an extremely low YAW angle effect throughout the 30° range, an improved signal-to-noise ratio, and they generate an amplified differential pressure signal, improving the ability to make low velocity measurements.  Insertion Probes can easily be installed in either new or existing ductwork by cutting small entry holes in either side and installing the sensors across the duct area.  Where the sensor must be removed for periodic inspection or cleaning, insertion probes provide an excellent measurement solution.  The TFP-5000 probes are manufactured in one-inch increments in lengths from four to 146 inches long, for rectangular, circular, and oval ductwork.  Achievable accuracies are typically within 2% of actual airflow.

VT-2000
VorTek flow technology measurement

 

The VT-2000 Airflow Measurement Probe consists of multi-sensor probes available as insertion probes or in pre-assembled airflow stations.  Individual sensors provide frequency pulse outputs which are directly proportional and linear to airflow velocity.  These digital signals are totalized in the companion transmitter and are converted to a 4-20mA, 1-5 or 2-10 VDC output, linear to flow.  Units are available with one to four sensors, in sizes as small as 4" diameter up to four square feet.  Either 24 VAC or 15 to 35 VDC power is required for operation.

VorTek flow technology measurement

 

Velocity measurement is accomplished by Tek-Air's unique, patented, VorTek sensors.  VorTek sensors utilize proven vortex shedding phenomena to measure the true airflow velocity independent of changes in temperature, density, and humidity which affect Pitot and thermal airflow measurement systems. 

The VT-5000 Airflow Measurement Probe consists of multi-sensor probes inserted in the ductwork where airflow is to be measured and transmitted. Individual sensors on the probes provide pulse frequency electronic output signals which are directly proportional and linear to the airflow velocity. These signals are totalized in the companion transmitter and converted to an industry standard, 4-20mA output. (1-5 VDC or 2-10 VDC are also selectable by jumper).
